So Objectively Speaking....

...this is good, right? None of us has to actually like opera, talent contests, or the stereotypes about people's teeth in the United Kingdom to agree that this is one fucking amazing voice!

That was amazing. I just loved the transition in facial expressions of all three judges.

It would never happen in the U.S.--we're too reverse snobby or something. A "general crowd" crying? Nope.

I just love that he's a mobile phone salesman. Make that WAS a salesman.

You know, I kind of want to steal this clip for my blog, being as it kind of goes along with some of my experience in Boston. You can't have preconceptions about people. You never know what kind of abilities or life experiences someone has had until you get to know them. Sorry to get preachy on your blog b. I'll try to keep it to my own... :)

This could certainly never happen on American Idol, but perhaps one of the other, less popular music specific shows. We have an America's Got Talent, don't we? And, yes, he was fucking good. So good that I wondered whether the clip was dubbed. I'm not actually expressing doubt, mind. I prefer to believe such stories. This is every nerd's ultimate fantasy, with opera substitutable for some other relatively obscure talent.

Although, if I may point out, opera has never been a musical genre that requires its "greats" to be attractive (at least the men). I have two words for you: Luciano Pavarotti. The man was so fat that he broke a chair he was sitting in while on stage!

Yeah, and the female opera singers have to be pretty...

He wound up winning the whole competition. Recording contract and a live performance for the queen.

No shit? I thought the little girl would win! That's pretty cool--I might buy his album, actually.
